When I Bid You Farewell

It reached me on the 7th of July and I still have that mail in my inbox. It was one among those social media junk mails which were deleted before opening. The subject, "A Farewell to Orkut" was just enough to read it and not to press the delete button. And today is the date, they have mentioned to use Orkut for the last time, 30th September, 2014.

When I opened my Gmail in today morning, the first thing I did was to scroll on the apps icon. And I couldn't find that "O" in it. It was there on July 7th and missing now! How could that happen and that too on it's last day. Finally I found it, from 'More' last down in the newly opened page. I logged in to the Orkut for the last time, and a lot of feelings, images, thoughts everything flashed through my mind in a single second.

Dear Orkut, You are my first companion in social networking sites. It was a Saturday I opened my account with you. And as always my brother was my first friend there too... The final year school going girl doesn't have permission to access Orkut on everyday and you became my weekend companion. All those first weekends with you, was full of fun and excitement. Strangers becoming friends, a friend list of known and unknown people, lots of groups, communities, forums, some beautiful testimonials, whole lot of scraps and personalized chats. That was a different world I explored through you.

It's true that Facebook is the giant which swallowed you and when you shut your services, today for forever, there is apart of me feeling bad. I think that bad feeling is arising on the thought that once you were my everything. And on these last hours with you, nothing of these types of talk will do nothing.

In these last moments with you, need to say a thank you, for giving me a wonderful friend, for letting me know how crooked this world around you can be, and for a lot of smiles and happiness. Once in my life you were my world and I love you!
